During my three years at the cathedral, I led the production of weekly service bulletins: leaflets for each service that included prayers and readings, instructions, announcements, and more.
Each service had set liturgy, including prayers and readings, dictated by the church calendar and church leadership. I created first drafts from these guidelines, and collected further information from colleagues, leadership at all levels, volunteers, and community members. I established and maintained weekly deadlines, communication channels, editorial procedures, documentation standards, and my own organizational system for the information I received. As leadership changed, I adjusted these processes and standards with my new colleagues.
I produced an average of two bulletins per week, at 16-20 pages each, from first draft to printing. During the holiday seasons (notably Christmas and Easter), I produced up to twelve 24-page bulletins simultaneously.
Services (and therefore bulletins) were conducted mostly in English; on high holy days or other particular occasions, I would also produce French or bilingual bulletins.
I printed the bulletins myself at the office, recruited volunteers to print them, or sent them to be printed by a local print shop. I uploaded digital copies to the cathedral website and social media, to be linked to the service livestreams.
The result of my organizational and editorial work was a high editorial standard and a weekly process so smooth that writing the bulletins became my "easy work," and I had capacity for unexpected changes and additional services to be added to my workload.
